Why Coaching Is Difficult
I discovered why coaching is difficult. Without proper contact with the coach, clients tend to undo the good that the coach set out doing. I’ve discovered that clients tend to limit themselves, prevent themselves from getting things going, and end up ’stucking’ themselves. Once case like this is when I actually had plans jointly built with a client then, he changed his business plan himself and started executing his own plan his own way without consultation. Not that I want to always look over your shoulder when you are doing your thing, because if it is a good plan, it will be great. If not, then you’re in jeopardy, because by taking a step forward without proper guidance and expertise, you are really taking several steps back.
A number of clients also d othis – sit there and expect miracles to happen. This cannot be the case. You can’t ask your coach to do your website: you have to learn how to do it yourself. You can’t ask your coach to be your wrier: you either improve your own writing skills or hire someone to do it for you. You can’t ask your coach to write your emails. I mean, if you want that, you might as well get your coach to eat your food for you, clean your bedroom…
One more issue about coaching is that the coach is really dealing with far more than just the business issue. Usually, there are emotions involved. The individual client may feel inadequate, stupid, ignorant, etc. These are life coaching issues that require a good look. It’s fortunate that I can help out because I am also a life coach. If not, it’s highly recommended that you sort out your own wiring first. Join the Patterns of Excellence!
The whole point to coaching is that you set yourself on the path with someone as a sounding board. Just when you think that coaching is easy, you can’t really believe that it’s as easy as it looks.
