Social Branding

I’ve written about Poor Man’s Traffic recently, and I thought it would be a good idea to add this in as a supplement. Most people are not aware that Social Branding is a powerful form of marketing. You can, at it’s very basic level, consider it word of mouth marketing, or customer evangelism. Both concepts are very powerful. At the same time, I’m referring not just to people meeting people who ‘happen’ to talk about a particular product or service. I’m saying that it is a deliberate effort. You have a group of people to go out and talk to others about this product or service.

Now – the key difference is this. By making the social environment more conducive for communication, you encourage people to bring friends to talk about the business that you are in. You have a drink or a meal, and this social function ends up being a tool for the marketer who is smart, to leverage on the opportunity to spread the word of mouth, after all, you have the other person’s undivided attention.

Think of this – you could use social activities such as meals and sitting over a cup of coffee, as the place to learn about, say, golfing. Set up a location online that gives you tools and resources to meet people and reward you for meeting people. Say, getting a coupon for coffee for four people. While someone on your list will have to pay if they just ordered for one person, having four people in a group could allow them to use a coupon absolutely free.

There are interesting ramifications for using this approach. I suggest you take some time to think this through and really build an army of Social Branding tools online.

  1. Viral marketing is the most powerful way of getting the messages out. The question is how to design to make it work. People are willing to do that voluteraly.

  2. There is a Marketer in Malaysia who actually invites the visitors of his blog to join him for coffee at starbucks and its on him. Its actually an interesting concept.

Is this same as network meetings or the normal networking marketing concepts?

  3. Yes! Think about it – the concept of ‘networking’ is a very powerful one. You certainly will have to consider using the strategy that WORKS. Definitely, face to face is an important element. Two things – online traffic to offline relationship building, and offline audience to online relationship. Both work and are powerful concepts.
