Shocking News: Internet Marketing More Important Than Education In Singapore
Singapore – More people have turned to internet marketing than education – at least according to Alexa Rankings. Alexa presently rates the local website InternetMarketingSingapore.com more important than the Ministry of Education, Singapore.
Is this a sign of the times?

Well, it’s all about traffic and generating a huge amount of traffic is no longer a problem I think I’ll deal with this in another Gold Club webconference. If you remember, PM Lee Hsien Loong mentioned Bloggers and MySpace during his last National Day speech. I think this must have caught on many Singaporean. Yes, now is the time for Internet Marketing. I one one of them that caught on.. I started my blog http://entrepreneur-2b.blogspot.com.
In addition, he just annouced the plan for making Singapore island a WIFI (WiMax) island. And we can have free Wifi for 2 years!?
Who knows, one day, Singapore may be the top national in Internet Marketing and Blogging. I think Internet marketing also encourage entrepreneurship.

As you know, Alexa ranking is not a really big deal – just a benchmark. But having said that, I can’t see any other internet marketing website on the Alexa Top 70 for Singapore… hah… hence the horn-blowing
I probably will have an hour with a teleseminar… and do my best to squeeze as much information as I can into the hour or so that I have.
I’ll see how many people actually post here so I can decide whether or not to go an extra 30 mins for this…
If there are people running offline businesses and they are friends of yours, they probably will need to learn this too, in order to get MORE customers and MORE sales.

Allan — your ebooks didn’t sell for a big variety of reasons. niche market, targeting, marketing strategy… all of them are very, very important. Don’t be discouraged. Just remember that learning is a 12 month process. How fast you achieve your enlightenment comes depends on your diligence and your learnings.
Pat — Err… Generosity is not the name of the game. SPOILING THE MARKET IS…. and so is personal branding. I’m planning to make sure that people who intend to sell “internet marketing” related products go WAAAY down in their prices. Haha… call it harsh belevolence — that way they can concentrate on places where the money REALLY is.

I must say that basic education still forms the foundation for Internet Marketing.
Part of the reason Minitry of Education wasn’t ranked as high may be the measuring device is Online and there was a concentrated effort by Internet Marketers to rank well.
The results might differ if it were to be done in offline survey, and the group of respondents choosen are representive of the population.
But “This Internet Marketing Revolution” thingy is like a window of opportunity that is open right now!

I wouldn’t be so quick to say that Internet Marketing is more important than Education just based on the Alexa rankings. It isn’t a fair comparison to make traffic rankings with the MOE website because it just isn’t the place which is directly linked to education materials. NUS though, has a ranking of 1988 as of the time of writing, so I do not believe that it is a sign of the times.
Anyways, I would love to be included in the web conference for traffic generation. =)
