Model Based Reasoning As A Strategy For Success In Internet Marketing
I believe that all internet marketers should start off with the foundation of their logic. By developing a more effective way to think, individuals should be better able to accomplish their goals more effectively.
One of the things sorely lacking in the personal motivation and goal-setting arena is that there is very little opportunity for people like you and me to see how it applies to my life other than a motivating factor. I hope this is more than adequately addressed in our book “Master Your Mind, Design Your Destiny”. You see, everytime you take action, you either succeed or you don’t. The way to success is to measure your results, change your strategies, and then move closer to your goals.
I’ve found that so many people lack model-based reasoning because they don’t have ‘prototypes’. Cognitive psychologist Eleanor Rosch had developed in 1974 something called ‘prototype theory’ which I’m alluding to. When you think of a chair, you have a mental prototype or a ’schema’. Hence, you know what to sit on. In fact, as long as a table fits the utility of a chair, you’re gonna sit on it anyway. If a sink is big enough, it’s called a bathtub. If a plate is light enough, it’s called a frisbee. We all have mental schema where the “rules” can be broken. Without slowly breaking these ‘rules’, we won’t have the opportunity to be creative.
Here comes the real internet marketing stuff – if you are a complete newbie in business. How are you supposed to get the right picture? You have NO schema or prototypes in your head, and therefore, have no idea how much you should or should not be making.
This is why modeling is important. You need to follow common business models, then break their edges to become more inventive and innovative so as to come up with a more powerful concept for the future.
Let’s say you have a sequence of steps: A>>B>>C>>D. IF you could explain it, your students will be able to pick up the exact sequence. However, we all know that human communication is distorted. Your students may either get LESS than the transmitted communication (called deletion) or get MORE than the transmitted communication (called distortion). Whatever it is, you won’t have ABCD. You might have ACD or ABCEFG.
Now… I want you to think about how beginners always get confused about affiliate marketing. They have no idea that there are two parts – affiliate selling and affiliate management. Both form part of the affiliate marketing strategy. As an affiliate seller, you pick products to sell. As an affiliate manager, you recruit and groom affiliates. At the same time, as a seller, you still need to know the process – building a site, generating relevant content, building traffic, obtaining opt-ins, promoting to your list, then receiving payment. These are the steps. Yet, within each step, there are sub-steps as well. No wonder it’s so difficult for them to comprehend!
Think about a simple website. If anyone doesn’t know about website editing, they will think it is really complicated! Then, you will probably find that there is far less knowledge being developed because they hold the idea that it is too difficult to do. What rubbish! There is a site on website building that I highly recommend for newbies. It literally uses the concept of model based reasoning to assist you in understanding the power you have over website codes.
Go there for a visit: http://internetmarketingsingapore.com/blog/611/beginning-html/
On my blog, I explain what needs to be done. Basic components to allow you to learn website creation and editing. The site in my blog post basically allows you to learn snippets of HTML at a go. Very powerful as a learning tool.
Now you can see that what you do with your code influences the result of the web page. This is helpful to give you the foundation, and I highly recommend anyone who needs to learn to give it a shot. After all, you may be a newbie, but you might actually grow into an expert with time!
Human beings are born modelers. If you can gain control over what you model, you could be a superstar.
Pick an exemplar (a model), then watch the way this is done through spying, research or communication.
Emulate what is being done and the elements that led to that.
Explore the missing elements that distinguish you from the model. Implement those.
Then, find out how to repeat it in a different context using the same process.
If you are interested in model-based reasoning, I teach a less rigid and less techie one as seen on this site: http://www.msu.edu/~tne/science/sciencelink_11.htm (which incidentally appears to have the most comprehensive amount of information). It’s the modeling process based on Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) that has been instrumental in my development as a public speaker, an internet marketer and an entrepreneur. You’ll hear more about this as we go along the way.
