Differentiating Google Page Rank, Alexa Ranking, and SERPs Ranking
If you don’t know already, these are three types of rankings. Beginners have a tendency to get confused, so if you are unsure, here are the differences.
ÂÂ
Google Page Rank (Page Rank is a technical term), refers to your ranking on the Google Toolbar. To install the toolbar, go to http://toolbar.google.com, download and install it. The higher the better. It’s a scale out of 10, so with a higher page rank, it denotes how frequently your site will be checked by GoogleBot.
Alexa Ranking is a little different. You have to install the Alexa Toolbar for this from www.Alexa.com. When you download this, it ranks you based on several traffic factors, and the LOWER the ranking, the better. For example, Yahoo is #1, MySpace is #6 and so on.
SERPs stands for ’search engine results pages’, which occur whenever you type in a phrase into any search engine such as Google, Yahoo or MSN. When you are doing Search Engine Optimization, you want to rank on page #1 on the SERPs because people looking for something online will typically click through more readily on the first page of the site.
Once you differentiate this, you will appreciate the value of the rankings and use them as measurements of success.
