Blue Ocean Strategy
It seems that there are people who prefer to think of the Red Ocean rather than the Blue Ocean. In my reading of the book “Blue Ocean Strategy”, it is probably one of the better books I’ve read by HBS. Essentially, it advocates competitive enlightenment rather than competition per se. When you think ‘blue ocean’, you’re thinking how to destroy the competition. It’s a really good read (so far).
It’s concept is to make the competition irrelevant (there are many ways to do this – joint venture, etc). The other option is to ensure that the value of your business far exceeds those in your industry, and possibly focus on one or two that deliver exceptional value.
I think strategic thinking is useful, although only a couple of people in the company should do it rather than everyone – it’s simply logical. Each individual who wants to scale their business, if you have not already done so, you must understand that leveraging on your time means to get the most out of it. You won’t leverage if you do everything by yourself.
Work together and strike up a good balance between doing and getting done.
