Beginner Mistake #2 – Choice Overload & Paralysis

I want to continue to educate and this post really is a follow up from the earlier important email I sent to my subscribers.

I’m actually in KL right now, and one of the things I have discovered is that people are overloaded with a serious problem: choices. What’s worse, is that because there are too many choices (ebooks, software, courses) they can’t make up their mind. Are you in their shoes? Do you receive countless, endless emails about some kind of offer or other that you don’t understand?

After finishing my seminar yesterday, someone actually came up to me and asked if I knew how to burn a DVD. Geez. Frankly, I don’t really know! As a person who needs to do a lot of value adding, I can’t know everything. I started to surf the web about how to burn DVDs, and a TON of software about DVD burning and DVD conversion came up. I was, well, stuck at my laptop for the next 2 hours digesting the information. Couldn’t there be a better way of doing it?

According to Chris Anderson’s book “The Long Tail” (which you should read EVEN IF you have information overload) choice is going to be the biggest thing to contend with. As a marketer, you must know how to deal with this. And the best part of it is that you have no choice! People take to the choices they have and buy ONLY from people they are familiar with. You are familiar with 100 internet marketing products, but the ONE person whom you communicate with online who refers you will be the one whom you are going to buy from. What in the world does this mean? It effectively means you have to build a strong sense of credibility in the eyes of the consumer.

In fact, I got excited about this and decided to post a short podcast about this as a podcast (you can find it in the post below) You can download it (I didn’t have my super-duper mic, so the recording is less than perfect, so bear with me).

Where my DVD was concerned, if only I had someone to ask and get answers, I wouldn’t be in this fix! So I had to test one software after another until I found one that worked for me, which was a waste of time. I hope that in your journey in Internet Marketing, you will always find credible coaches and mentors who can lead you on your way!

In this respect, you have to find a learning team. Why a learning team? With a group, you can share your experiences and tap each other to digest a huge amount of information quickly. You get to teach each other. However, everyone must remain committed to the cause and continue to do what they are supposed to do.
